Well done Connacht!!!!

We had a fantastic day in Junior Infants celebrating Connacht winning the Guinness Pro 12 trophy!!
We think the Connacht flags we coloured must have brought them some good luck!!

Two of the children in our class were lucky enough to get to hold the trophy as their Dad is part of the Connacht training team. They wore their jerseys in to celebrate!!

Teacher had her jersey on for the occasion too!

We did our best to write down the exciting news in our copies.

We had lots of fun drawing pictures of the rugby team and our two class members on the stage.

Cocoons!!!

All of our caterpillars are now safely inside their cocoons or chrysalis'.

And Junior Infants have spotted a big problem!!!!
Our caterpillars home will not be big enough for four butterflies!
We put on our thinking caps to come up with a solution today!
We decided that we needed to find our caterpillars a bigger home before they hatch into butterflies.

Teacher showed us a few different homes we could choose for the caterpillars.

We decided that the basket was best for butterflies as it has a net to let in lots of air for them to breathe, a lid to keep the butterflies safe inside, lots of space so they can fly with their new wings, and it is see-through so we can watch them as they prepare to hatch.
We are excited to meet the butterflies when they come out!!

Magnets

We are learning all about magnets.
Today we did an experiment with lots of different objects to see if they were magnetic!
First we made predictions. We worked in pairs and looked at each object to try and predict whether they were magnetic or non magnetic.

Next teacher gave each pair a magnet and we tested each object to see if our predictions were correct.
We discovered that paper-clips, spoons and coins are all magnetic.

We discovered that building blocks. pencils and lego are non magnetic.

Gardening

Kay the gardener came back in to visit us today!
Can you remember her last visit to us back in September?
She helped us to plant some onions in the school garden!
Well today we got to uproot our onions as they are fully grown!
The stalks were very tall!
Kay showed us how to uproot the onions and pull them out of the earth.

When the onions came out they had very long roots!

We all had a turn pulling out some onions.

What a fun morning!!!!

Our Very Hungry Caterpillars!!!

Our baby caterpillars are one week old today!!
We think they must have been very hungry caterpillars as they have been eating lots of food and have gotten very big!!

Our class are learning about the life-cycle of a butterfly.
Our caterpillars hatched from eggs, when they are big enough they will form a cocoon. Inside the cocoon the caterpillar will transform from a caterpillar to a butterfly.
We read the story of the hungry caterpillar and drew the stages of the life-cycle of the butterfly.

We are very excited to watch our caterpillars grow and see how big they will be next week!!!
It will be very exciting when they start to spin their cocoon!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Display Board

We love reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle so much that we made an entire display board dedicated to the story.
We enjoyed using sponge painting to create some hungry caterpillars of our own,

Then we used paper to construct some large loop caterpillars.
We tried our best to colour the numbers and fruit neatly for the display.

May is the Month of Mary

May is the month when we remember how much Mary our mother in Heaven loves us.
We have made a special May alter for Mary in our classroom.
Teacher brought in some beautiful flowers for our May alter.

Then all the children made beautiful colourful flowers from lollipop sticks and cupcakes to decorate the alter.
We will say a Hail Mary each day for the month of May to show our love for Mary.
